Everything server owners and admins need to know about running Scout in their Discord server.
Adding Scout to Your Server
Contact us through our contact page or reach out to crossxfires on Discord to get Scout added to your server.
Automatic Setup
When Scout joins your server, it automatically:
- Creates an LFG category and #lfg channel for session posts
- Sends a welcome DM to new members who join the server
- Tracks members as guest users (no GameTree account required to participate)
If the LFG channel is accidentally deleted, Scout will automatically recreate it and repost any active sessions.
Configuration
These commands require “Manage Server” permission:
- /lfgchannel set — Set any channel as the default LFG posting channel
- /lfgchannel info — View the current LFG channel
- /welcome set [message] — Customize the welcome DM new members receive. Supports placeholders: {{displayName}}, {{username}}, {{guildName}}
- /welcome clear — Reset to the default welcome message
- /welcome preview — Preview the current message
How Scout Works in Your Server
- When members create LFGs, Scout posts them in your configured LFG channel
- Scout creates temporary private voice and text channels for each session, then cleans them up when the session ends
- Invites are sent via DM to relevant members who play the game, prioritizing friends and compatible players
- Members control their own invite preferences — they can set visibility, mute games, or snooze invites
Permissions
Scout needs the following Discord permissions to function properly:
- Manage Channels (to create/delete temporary voice and text channels)
- Send Messages (to post LFG embeds)
- Manage Messages (to clean up posts when sessions end)
- Read Message History
- Use Application Commands
- Connect and Speak (for voice channel creation)
What Your Members See
Members don’t need a GameTree account to use basic features. They can join sessions, browse with /sessions, and use /lfg as guests. Connecting a GameTree account unlocks better matching, a synced game library, and a cross-platform friends list.
