The headline is that nobody can run a five-stack in competitive at any rank. If you have ever built a full team and found the last player could not join, that is the rule you hit, and no amount of rank shuffling fixes it. Once anyone in the party is Platinum or above the group tops out at three, and from Celestial upward you are down to duos.

How far apart your ranks can be
Below Gold I, there is no rank restriction at all. Anyone from Bronze III through Gold II can queue together in any combination that respects the size cap above. A Bronze III player and a Gold II player can party up with zero rank penalty. This is the band most casual duos and squads live in, and it is far more permissive than the old whole-rank model most pages still publish.
Once anyone in the party reaches Gold I, the game caps how far apart your squad can be. The cap is counted in divisions rather than ranks, and divisions run straight across rank boundaries rather than resetting at each rank name. Marvel Rivals Season 9 Rank Reset: What Changed
If your rank looks lower than where you finished last season, that is the seasonal reset rather than a bug. Season 9 applied a soft reset and a placement process, so your displayed rank starts below your previous finish. The exact starting point varies from player to player, and it varies most at the top of the ladder.
The practical effect is worth planning around. Check where your regular squad has landed before you queue, because a group that fit inside the rules last season will not automatically fit this season.
How To Unlock Ranked In Marvel Rivals
Competitive unlocks at account level 15, which you reach by playing Quick Match. The requirement used to be level 10, and a lot of guides still quote that number.
There is one exception worth knowing. If you have previously completed at least one valid competitive match on your account, you can keep queueing competitive even if you sit below level 15. Both the level requirement and that exemption come from the official Season 2 patch notes.

Is Marvel Rivals Ranked Crossplay?
Marvel Rivals is crossplay across all platforms in Quick Match. Competitive works differently: ranked runs two separate pools, one for PC and one for console. PC players can only party with other PC players in ranked. PlayStation and Xbox players share the console pool and queue together freely.

- Learn more than one hero per role. You will get countered or your pick banned in higher-stakes matches, and a one-trick strategy runs out of road fast. The Marvel Rivals tier list is a reasonable place to pick a second main.
