GTA 5 has 78 trophies on PS4, including the Los Santos Legend platinum, and 77 achievements on Xbox and PC. Only the 50 base game trophies count toward the platinum. The 27 Heist, Rockstar Editor and Doomsday trophies are optional DLC. Six trophies can be missed, and four of them depend on your ending, so always choose option C, “Deathwish.” Expect 150 hours or more, because the platinum needs a lot of GTA Online, which still runs on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

Stage 1: Complete the Story Mode Missions

Your first mission will be to complete the entire story. The story begins with completing missions for the three main characters: Michael, Franklin, and Trevor. By completing their missions one by one, you unlock the main trophies:

🏆 A Friendship Resurrected (Bronze): complete Fame or Shame

🏆 The Moment of Truth (Bronze): complete Bury the Hatchet

Pro tip: Until you finish the story, don’t do Lester’s assassination missions (except the first one). Using these missions after the story, you can earn a lot of money on the stock market and they’ll also be needed for money-related trophies. 

The story takes about 25–30 hours to complete. Along the way, you’ll also get trophies for the heists:

Stage 2: Side Missions, Properties & Strangers

After completing the story, it’s the perfect time to explore Los Santos in more detail. Now let’s move on to side missions, property purchases, and Strangers and Freaks quests.

🏆 All’s Fare in Love and War (Bronze): buy Downtown Cab Co. and complete a private fare

🏆 TP Industries Arms Race (Bronze): buy the McKenzie Field Hangar and win the arms race

🏆 Kifflom! (Silver): finish the Epsilon Program missions. They are strange, expensive and long.

🏆 Wanted: Alive or Alive (Bronze): deliver a bail bond target alive

🏆 Red Mist (Bronze): complete all Rampages as Trevor

Strangers and Freaks missions add humor, and several are needed for 100% completion. The Epsilon Program is the longest chain, with donations and long tasks along the way, so start it early. Red Mist, TP Industries Arms Race and Kifflom! can be lost if Trevor or Michael dies in the finale, so finish them before the last mission.

Stage 3: Collectibles Required for the GTA V 100% Checklist

Now begins the real grind for every trophy hunter. In GTA 5, hundreds of collectible items are scattered across the map, and most of them need to be found to get the trophy for 100% completion.

 What you need to collect:

🏆 From Beyond the Stars (Bronze): 50 spaceship parts

🏆 A Mystery, Solved (Bronze): 50 letter scraps

 🏆 Waste Management (Bronze): 30 nuclear waste barrels

 🏆 Show Off (Bronze): 50 stunt jumps

 🏆 Close Shave (Bronze):   50 under the bridges and 15 “knife flights”

Pro tip: Buy a helicopter early. It makes spaceship parts and letter scraps much faster to collect. To collect the nuclear waste for Waste Management, buy the old dock (Sonar Collections), which comes with a submarine. Collecting everything takes about 10 to 15 hours.

Stage 4: GTA Online Trophies

GTA Online is a separate grind. You need to reach rank 100, win every competitive mode, and try every activity. Plan for about 60 to 75 hours online. GTA Online still runs on every current version, including PS4 and Xbox One.

Base game online trophies:

🏆 Numero Uno (Bronze): win first place in every competitive game mode

🏆 Decorated (Silver): earn 30 Platinum Awards

🏆 Enjoy Your Stay (Bronze): take part in everything Los Santos has to offer

🏆 Unnatural Selection (Bronze): complete all 10 waves of a Survival

Tips:

• Do contact missions and play events with double or triple RP.
• Complete daily objectives for steady RP.
• Focus on RP, not money. The money comes as you level up.

Stage 4b: DLC Trophies (Heists, Director Mode, Doomsday)

There are also 27 DLC trophies. You do not need them for the platinum, but you do need them for 100% of the PS4 list or the full 1,750 Gamerscore on Xbox and PC:

• Heists: Be Prepared, In the Name of Science, Dead Presidents, Parole Day, Shot Caller, Four Way, Live a Little, Can’t Touch This, Mastermind
• Rockstar Editor and Director Mode: Vinewood Visionary, Majestic, Humans of Los Santos, First Time Director, Animal Lover, Ensemble Piece, Cult Movie, Location Scout, Method Actor, Cryptozoologist
• The Doomsday Heist: Getting Started, The Data Breaches, The Bogdan Problem, The Doomsday Scenario, A World Worth Saving, Orbital Obliteration, Elitist, Masterminds

The hardest is Masterminds: complete all three Criminal Mastermind challenges in The Doomsday Heist. You need a steady crew of players you trust, so find your team before you start. On PS4 and Xbox One, Rockstar removed the Rockstar Editor from both Story Mode and GTA Online on February 20, 2024. Director Mode is still there, and the Rockstar Editor trophies can now be earned by using Director Mode instead.

Stage 5: Platinum Unlock & Requirements

To earn the GTA 5 platinum trophy, Los Santos Legend, you need to:

• Finish the story (choose option C, “Deathwish”)
• Earn 70 gold medals across story missions and Strangers and Freaks
• Reach 100% completion
• Unlock every base game online trophy, including rank 100
• Find every collectible and try every activity

The DLC trophies are not required for the platinum.

Very few players earn this platinum. Plan for 150 hours or more.

Which GTA 5 Trophies Are Missable

Six GTA 5 trophies can be missed. Four of them depend on the ending you choose:

• Three Man Army: survive 3 minutes with a 3-star wanted level while all three characters are together, outside a mission. Endings A and B kill a main character, so do it before the finale or choose option C.
• Red Mist: complete all Rampages as Trevor. Ending A kills Trevor.
• TP Industries Arms Race: buy Trevor’s McKenzie Field Hangar and win the arms race. Ending A kills Trevor.
• Kifflom!: finish Michael’s Epsilon Program missions. Ending B kills Michael.
• Wanted: Alive or Alive: deliver one of Maude’s four bail bond targets alive. If you kill all four, the trophy is gone on that save.
• Altruist Acolyte: as Trevor, deliver one hitchhiker to the Altruist Cult. Hitchhiker events are limited, so do it early, and before you attack the camp.

The trophy names and conditions are almost the same everywhere, but the lists are not the same size.

PlayStation (PS4 and PS5)

The PS4 version has 78 trophies, including 27 optional DLC trophies. The PS5 version, released in March 2022, has its own separate trophy list with the same 50 base trophies and platinum, so you can earn the platinum again on PS5. The PS5 version also loads much faster, which helps with collectibles and mission replays.

Xbox (One and Series X|S)

Xbox One has 77 achievements worth 1,750 Gamerscore. Xbox Series X|S has its own separate list.

PC (Steam, Epic, Rockstar Games Launcher)

PC has the same 77 achievements. Since March 4, 2025, PC has two versions: GTA V Enhanced and GTA V Legacy. Owners got Enhanced as a free upgrade and can move Story Mode and GTA Online progress to it. Enhanced and Legacy players cannot play online together, so make sure your crew is on the same version. On the Xbox PC app, the two versions have separate achievement lists.

Main difference

“A New Perspective” (play 15 hours in first-person mode) is not on PS3 or Xbox 360. First-person mode arrived with the PS4 and Xbox One release in 2014 and the PC release in 2015.
