Blizzard is preparing to release the fourth season of Diablo 4, which will feature significant changes. Since the launch of Diablo 4 in June 2023, three seasons have been released with new stories, loot, balance changes, and minor adjustments to the game. For Season 4, the developers promised significant changes and thus extended the third season for another month, changing the Diablo 4 Season 4 release date. They launched the Public Testing Realm (PTR), allowing players to try out all the new seasonal content and mechanics before they appear in the game.
Among the main innovations that await us in Season 4, we will finally receive not only the long-awaited reworking of items but also a lot of new end-game content, as well as class balancing. I’m waiting for the new Diablo 4 season 4 with hope and excitement, just like many other GameTree users. So, let’s explore everything that fans know so far about the 4th season and new gameplay features.
Diablo 4 Season 4 Release Date
The release of Diablo 4 Season 4 was originally planned for April 16, 2024, but was postponed to May 14, so this is the new Diablo 4 Season date. The developers needed more time to add new changes to the game and test everything properly before release.

New Diablo 4 Season PTR Experience
The PTR allowed players to test out the end-game content that will be available with the release of Diablo 4 Season 4. I must say, the functionality of loot has changed significantly. It now provides meaningful ways to empower and shape the skills you love, rather than just offering a bunch of extra stat upgrades. Instead of boring bonuses like increased damage against elite enemies, you can find stats that significantly improve your skills. I noticed that in Diablo 4, the very spirit of an action RPG has finally appeared, allowing you to experiment, try different builds, and choose what suits your playstyle.
The balance of hero classes was also edited, a new boss was added, events were updated, and many minor fixes were made. All changes will affect both the base game, Eternal Realm, and Seasonal Realm. Considering that many of the changes being tested in the PTR are expected to arrive in Season 4, data mined information also uncovered a lot of interesting details about a possible theme for Diablo 4 Season 4. It could involve the Iron Wolves, a mercenary company that first appeared at the end of Diablo 2’s campaign. Their return will likely be tied into the main plot of Season 4, and the season’s activity appears to be focused on building up the reputation of the Iron Wolves.
What To Expect From The New New Diablo 4 Season
A lot of interesting things await us in the new season, if at least part of what was tested on PTR servers will be included in Diablo 4 Season 4. So let’s break down, all the thongs that we expect to see.
Itemization Changes
- More meaningful and powerful affixes, such as Core Skill Ranks, and existing affix values will be adjusted to make them felt.
- Legendary and Unique items can now be traded. However, modifying an item, such as with Enchanting, will make it account-bound and thus no longer available for trading.
- Gems have been simplified and strengthened.
Introducing Tempering
- Tempering is a new crafting system in D4 Season 4 that will allow players to add new affixes to their equipment.
- Tempering Manuals will add one of 4 affixes to the item (randomly). They drop from most items in the game.
- Items will have a limited Tempering Durability, which determines how many times Temper can be rerolled.
Greater Affixes
- Greater Affixes can only appear on Ancestral Legendary or Unique items, and they can also be upgraded using Enchanting. However, they cannot be crafted into items; they can only be found through drops.
- Now affixes have a chance to appear on an item in the form of Greater Affixes, which are 1.5 times more powerful than regular affixes.
Loot & Affix Updates
- Legendary items will now have 3 affixes instead of 4.
- Rare items will now have 2 affixes instead of 4.
- Smaller pool of affixes — many unused affixes have been removed from the game.
- Legendary items dropped by level 95+ monsters will always have 925 item power.
- Many Unique items can now drop in World Tier 1 and 2. All Unique items can now drop in World Tier 3.
- Uber Unique items start to drop from level 55 monsters.
Masterworking
- Masterworking is a new item upgrade system in the new D4 season that will include 12 ranks.
- Masterworking adds value to your current affixes. Most ranks slightly increase the value of all affixes. Every 4 ranks, one affixes increases significantly.
Related:
Codex Of Power
- All Legendary Aspects can now be found in the Codex of Power.
- Salvaging a Legendary item from a blacksmith will increase the Aspect value in the Code of Power and can be increased up to 16 times.
Helltide Reborn Event Enhancements
Helltide events are available on all levels of the world with many more enemies and a new summonable boss.
A New Dungeon – Pit Of Artificers
There will be a new endgame dungeon in which players battle hordes of monsters within some time. If the player manages to kill enough of them, they gain access to the final boss, much like the Greater Rifts in Diablo 3.
Boss Updates
- All bosses will have a level 200 “Tormented” option for higher rewards.
- A new boss, Andariel, will appear and will drop the same loot as Duriel.
Class Balance Changes
The main changes to classes in the next season of Diablo 4 are aimed at strengthening weak builds, for example, strengthening the necromancer. Finally, the build through minions makes sense.
Loot Updates
There will be less loot, but each item will be more powerful and meaningful, and not just flooding players with items as before, when most of it had nothing to do with your character.

It looks like Diablo 4 is finally releasing a season that adds a lot of new and interesting content and makes quality-of-life improvements since the previous seasons were frankly weak. Blizzard also understands this, so they deliberately postponed the new Diablo release date and launched PTR servers. This way, players could try it out and share their impressions, and developers could analyze feedback and make the necessary changes.
