What does the GameTree LFG Discord bot do?
The bot helps gamers find and join sessions quickly, manage invites, and build a universal gamer profile across games and platforms.
Is the bot free to use?
Yes, the bot is completely free to use. Additionally, GameTree is a Public Benefit Corporation, so we can better prioritise providing you value over extracting as much profit as possible.
Do I need a GameTree account to use the bot?
You can technically join linked LFGs in the GameTree Discord server and browse /sessions without an account, but you won’t get personal session invites by highly compatible matches, and your /lfg’s likewise won’t invite such players or friends from a GameTree friends list. The LFG system works significantly better when linked to your GameTree account.
How does it work?
Step 1: Download the app, create your profile, and join the GameTree Discord server.
Step 2: Join the server and /connect or link discord through the app.
Step 3: /sessions to find ongoing sessions and /lfg to create your own curated private lobby
How do invites work?
Based on your preferences in games, genres, platforms, personality, values and more, we use machine learning to find top matches. If you are a top match for another user’s gaming session, the bot will send you a DM inviting you to the session. Then you can choose between joining, learning more about the host, or muting invites for either that game or from that user.
What if I get stuck?
You can always use /help to pull up all the bot commands. Additionally, we have channels specifically to share instructions and answer FAQs. If you prefer to talk to someone, you can raise a ticket, and a member of our team will assist you shortly.
How do I report a problem or player?
After every LFG session, the bot will DM you with a session summary and a feedback form (yet another reason to turn on bot DMs!). There, you can highlight any problems and report players who don’t share GameTree community values and ruin gaming for others.
Not getting DMs from the bot?
Check you settings -> Content & Social -> Social Permissions -> Direct Messages
Once you turn on direct messages from other server members, you should start receiving bot DMs.
Not getting invites?
First – ensure you are receiving bot DMs.
Then – In order to prevent spam, you only get invites when Discord says you are Online. To update your status, click on your profile (bottom left) and update your status to online (you should have a green dot next to your PFP). We are also adding features for scheduling in advance and signaling your availability.
Not finding players?
Once you start your session and join your voice call, the GameTree bot will tell you how many matches were found and invited. If you want more players, you can always /bump to invite more. Make sure you have a GameTree account and used /connect for the bot to invite your GameTree friends. You can add friends from the app or with /addfriend.
If you’re not able to find matches, you can try switching up your game/platform, try playing at a time when more gamers are online, invite friends from outside GameTree, or schedule a session in advance for next time.
