Is simple edit worth using in competitive game modes in Fortnite?

To determine if simple edit is suitable for your playstyle, there are some determining factors that play a role in the effectiveness of training with simple edit.

The first determinant is whether or not you play on a controller.

If the answer is YES, you do play on a controller, many pros would consider simple editing an effective way for controller players to level the playing ground with mouse and keyboard players. Given that controllers have much less edit mobility, practicing simple editing can help you master editing in a way that allows you to focus primarily on aim and strategy, rather than editing.

However, if you do NOT play on controller, and you play on mouse and keyboard, many pros would consider learning simple editing to be a waste of time, considering that at this point in the Fortnite evolution, it can be a bit trickier to develop a new skill this late into the game. Using an editing style such as simple edit can add unneeded levels of training that do not add equivalent improvement in gameplay. However, if you are on mouse and keyboard, and you find yourself at a plateau, and are curious about what improvements can be made, it is worth giving it a try to see if your gameplay style improves in any way. Although if simple editing does not come to you quickly, very few mouse and keyboard players find it worth the effort to learn a new mechanic.

Does the addition of Simple Edit possibly hint towards a new direction of future Fortnite mechanics?

Fortnite has added new mechanics to make the game an easier experience for its users that provide little to no advantage in gameplay. Additions such as auto-sprint, auto-open doors, auto reload etc. However, Simple Edit is the first addition of its kind, one that, if perfected, can provide a clear advantage to those who use the setting. This could hint towards an entirely new set of mechanical settings that make the game much easier for players who would rather take a simpler route. If Fortnite continues down this path, the game could end up at a point where it is hard to distinguish players who are mechanically skilled from those who have an understanding of how to utilize the new settings released by Fortnite.

Should Fortnite Eliminate Simple Edit entirely?

The best solution, in my opinion, is to limit the use of Simple Edit to non-competitive modes. This allows an even playing field, but still gives players the choice to use the new mechanic in game modes where an advantage such as Simple Edit can be used without as much on the line. Fortnite has an opportunity right now to place a strong line on how the future of the game will progress. If no limit is placed, there is no telling what mechanics will be added to make the skill gap very thin, resulting in less competition, fairness, and motivation to improve.
