Call of Duty Ranked Play Guide 2026: Ranks, Rewards and Rules

Call of Duty Ranked Play is the 4v4 competitive mode that uses Call of Duty League rules. Each new game brings its own ranked seasons. Right now, Black Ops 7 has the newest full ruleset. Modern Warfare 4 came out on October 23, 2026, but its Ranked Play has no date yet.

This guide covers how ranked works today: how to unlock it, every skill division and SR target, the rules and the rewards. We will update it when MW4 ranked goes live.

Which Call of Duty Has Ranked Play Right Now?

• Modern Warfare 4: Out since October 23, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. Ranked Play is not live yet and has no date. Season 1 starts November 6, 2026. In past games, ranked arrived between Season 1 and Season 2, so watch for it from late 2026 into early 2027.
• Black Ops 7: Ranked Play has run since Season 2 (February 5, 2026) and is in Season 6, which began September 17, 2026. The rules below come from BO7.
• Black Ops 6: Ranked launched on November 21, 2024. It is now two games old.

How To Unlock Ranked Play

Win 50 matchmade multiplayer games. Wins in Party Games and limited-time modes do not count. After that, play your placement matches. You need three placement wins, and each one raises your minimum starting rank.

All Ranks And Skill Divisions

Ranked Play has eight skill divisions. The first six have three tiers each. Iridescent and Top 250 have no tiers.

Activision does not publish the tier steps. The SR values above are the ones widely reported for Black Ops 7.

How The Ranked System Works

Ranked Play is a 4v4 competitive mode that uses Call of Duty League (CDL) rules, maps and restrictions.

What Is SR?

Skill Rating (SR) is the number that sets your rank. You earn SR when you win and lose SR when you lose. The amount depends on how well you play compared with the lobby and how much your team wins or loses by. Higher ranks give smaller gains and bigger losses.

Protections

• First loss each day: no SR lost.
• First three losses of a new season: no SR lost.
• First three losses after you rank up: no SR lost.
• A matchmade teammate quits: no SR lost. If they rejoin, you lose less.

Party Rules

• Bronze to Platinum: no limits.
• Diamond: party members must be within two ranks of each other.
• Crimson and higher: parties of one or two only, within one rank.
• Four-player parties: allowed only if everyone is Diamond or lower. The game matches you by your highest-ranked player.

Season Reset

Bronze, Silver and Gold players keep their rank and SR at the start of a new season. Platinum and higher players must win one placement match.

Modes And Rules

Black Ops 7 Ranked Play uses Hardpoint, Search & Destroy and Overload. Assault rifles, SMGs, pistols and melee weapons are allowed. Sniper rifles are allowed in Search & Destroy only. Restricted items include some attachments, perk Specialties and Overclocks, and all Wildcards except Greed are banned. Friendly fire is on. Leaving, team-killing or going idle can cost you SR or earn a suspension.

Before each match, teams vote on the map and mode, and matches can end early by forfeit once one side is far enough ahead.

Ranked Play Rewards (Black Ops 7 Season 6)

• 5 wins: Pro Re-Issue M15 Mod 0 weapon blueprint.
• 50 wins: Season 6 large decal.
• Silver: calling card.
• Gold, Platinum, Diamond and Crimson: a calling card and a weapon camo for each.
• Iridescent: animated calling card and camo.
• Top 250 at season end: animated calling card and animated camo. The number one player gets an extra animated calling card.

MW4 Ranked Play: What We Know

Activision has not announced a date for Modern Warfare 4 Ranked Play, and the official Season 1 post does not mention it. Dexerto reports that it will use the CDL format with Hardpoint, Search & Destroy and a new mode called Hijack. We expect the same eight divisions from Bronze to Top 250. We will add the full rules when Activision makes them official.

How To Rank Up Faster

• Play with a steady squad. A team that talks and plays the objective wins more than four strong solo players.
• Learn the CDL maps and modes. Ranked uses a small map pool, so map knowledge pays off quickly.
• Use your protections. Your first loss each day costs no SR, so a daily session is a low-risk way to climb.
• Watch your SR swings. If you win but gain little SR, focus on your own performance, not just the result.
• Check the current meta. Weapon balance changes every season, so follow CDL loadouts for the newest patch.
