Monster Hunter Wilds is a game I’m super into, but my girlfriend can’t stand it, as I’ve been playing it like crazy since it came out! I’m not the only one, though — there are millions of other players worldwide diving into this sixth generation of the series. Cooperative monster hunting is more exciting than ever, and it has pulled in a ton of new hunters because it’s so flexible and easy to get into. If you’re just starting out in the new title and want to team up with friends, this guide has all the info you need about Monster Hunter Wilds crossplay.

Is Monster Hunter Wilds Cross-Platform?

Yes, Monster Hunter Wilds is cross-platform. It is available on all current platforms, such as PC, Xbox X/S, and PlayStation 5. For the first time in the Monster Hunter series, crossplay is also supported without restrictions!

What Is Monster Hunter Wilds?

Monster Hunter Wilds is a new cross-platform game in the Monster Hunter series. It is the spiritual successor to MH: World, and it also developed the ideas of the portable MH Rise. At the same time, the game is unique in the series and has little in common with the previous ones, marking a new chapter in the development of the Monster Hunter series. Why is that? Well, many gamers will definitely say that it’s because Monster Hunter Wilds supports full crossplay – finally!

The main gameplay loop remains the same – it is a game about hunting monsters, tailored for co-op. Players craft weapons and a set of armor from monster parts, thus improving their equipment and the ability to hunt more deadly monsters.

Progression occurs both through improving the weapons, armor, and passive skills of the hunter, as well as through a better understanding of the monsters’ behavior and the development of mechanical skills by the player. In simple words, you not only upgrade your hero but also upgrade yourself.

After a story prologue that lasts for about 15 hours, you are released into the open world, where you can hunt various monsters both alone and in a co-op of up to 4 players. Monster Hunter Wilds brought many changes to the series. Still, the key ones are the presence of a huge open world, the binding of many monsters, as well as other flora and fauna, to their specific habitat on the map, and their appearance in the game world depending on the season and time of day. Honestly, I can talk about Monster Hunter Wilds and its stunning attention to detail for hours, but let’s focus more on the Monster Hunter Wilds’ cross-platform support.

Release Information and Platforms

Monster Hunter started off as a pretty niche series, but it blew up with the launch of Monster Hunter Wilds. Capcom even said it was their most successful launch ever! The game dropped on February 28, 2025, and in just three days, it sold over 8 million copies! Such a phenomenal sales result was achieved due to the fact that Monster Hunter Wilds is cross-platform, and all the versions of the game were released simultaneously. The game supports the following platforms:

  • PC;
  • PS5;
  • Xbox Series X/S.

Crossplay in Monster Hunter Wilds is supported between all platforms.

Monster Hunter Wilds Crossplay

Today, crossplay has become a standard in the gaming industry. It is no longer so important for players which platform to play on because they can play together on different platforms. That’s why Monster Hunter Wilds crossplay is available on all supported devices.

Here’s what Monster Hunter Wilds producer Ryozo Tsujimoto told GamesRadar:

“There are more players than ever playing on PC, including in Japan, so we definitely see room for the series to capture new players who haven’t tried it before if that’s their chosen platform. Crossplay between PC and console players has been included in Monster Hunter Wilds so that “the choice is yours on which platform you want to play with, and then [you can just] go online and hunt with your friends.”

Platforms Supporting Crossplay

At the moment, the game is available on PC and current-generation consoles: PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Monster Hunter Wilds crossplay works between all platforms, but to play online on consoles, you will need a PS Plus or Game Pass subscription, depending on the platform.

Crossplay vs. Cross-Progression (Important Distinction)

No matter what platform players choose – PC or current-gen consoles – they can all come together to hunt the monster. That’s how crossplay in Monster Hunter Wilds works. However, when it comes to cross-progression, that’s not the case this time. Capcom has announced that Monster Hunter Wilds will not have cross-progression. This means that all story progression, character data, and DLC will remain tied to the platform you started playing on. So, if you switch to a new platform, you’ll have to start all over again.

Setting Up and Using Crossplay in Monster Hunter Wilds

The settings in Monster Hunter Wilds are super detailed, giving you a ton of options to customize your gameplay. But honestly, the settings menu can be a bit overwhelming, especially for newcomers. Crossplay settings in Monster Hunter Wilds are enabled by default on all platforms, and if you want to change the settings, you’ll need to go through a few steps.

Enabling/Disabling Crossplay in Settings

You can change the settings of crossplay in Monster Hunter Wilds only in the main menu before starting the game. To turn crossplay on or off, you need to do the following:

  1. Open the options from the title screen.
  2. In the “Game Settings” tab, scroll down until you get to “Crossplay.”
  3. Enable or disable it.

However, if you are already in the game, there is an additional option to disable players from other platforms for a session. You can find this setting by following these steps:

  1. Enter your tent at any base camp.
  2. Scroll through the menu options until you get to “Quest Menu.”
  3. Select “Post/Join Quest.”
  4. Select “Settings.”
  5. Scroll down to “Platform Permissions” and turn on “All Platforms” if you want crossplay to be on. If you want crossplay in Monster Hunter Wilds turned off, select “Your Platform.”

Common Crossplay Connection Issues

When I talked to other players, I found out that some of them periodically have connectivity problems between PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles and between consoles and PC. The best solution to this problem now is to change the dynamic IP to a static IP.

In addition, Japanese games are traditionally very sensitive to your router settings. So, if you are experiencing problems with Monster Hunter Wilds crossplay, it would be a good idea to check and open the following ports:

PlayStation 5 (ports for PlayStation™Network)

TCP ports: 80, 443, 3478, 3479, 3480

UDP ports: 3478, 3479

Xbox Series X/S (ports for the Xbox services)

TCP ports: 53, 80, 3074

UDP ports: 53, 88, 500, 3074, 3544, 4500

All platforms (ports for Monster Hunter Wilds)

TCP ports: 80, 443, 20002, 30840, 30850, 30870

UDP ports: 30840-30859, 30870-30879

Crossplay in Previous Monster Hunter Games

Capcom is doing a great job of pulling in new players by finally adding crossplay to Monster Hunter Wilds, something that’s been missing from the series until now. Below, I’ll dive into what crossplay features and limitations are like in the older Monster Hunter games.

Monster Hunter: World Crossplay Limitations

Monster Hunter: World does not feature crossplay between the PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 versions of the game. Yet, for the first time in the series’ history, each game version has cross-region global servers for multiplayer.

Note that game save data is unique to each platform and cannot be transferred between the PC, PlayStation 4, or Xbox One versions.

Monster Hunter Rise Crossplay Restrictions

In Monster Hunter Rise, crossplay is limited to the PlayStation and Xbox ecosystems separately. This means that PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 players can play with each other just like Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. Yet, PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch players cannot join one party.

Why Monster Hunter Wilds’ Full Crossplay Is Revolutionary

For the first time ever, Monster Hunter Wilds, being a cross-platform game, was launched at the same time on all the major platforms around the world. Plus, players can team up and play together across different systems! This is a huge deal for the series, which has usually been pretty niche, and Monster Hunter Wilds’ crossplay really opens things up for a lot more people to jump in and enjoy the game.
