How to Beat Apocalypse in MCP

Table of Contents

Servants of the Apocalypse is leading the meta. And, as of the May 25 update, the new buffs to Gambit and Colossus just made it worse. Together, let’s turn back this End of Days. By applying the lessons in this guide, you will be able to beat Apocalypse.

His reverse side is the same, but with immunity to ALL conditions

Do’s

  • Track the Horsemen cards and know what he’s capable of.
Remember: Apocalypse gets to use one Horseman superpower per turn.
  • Stagger him.
Even though he’s immune on his backside, you usually aren’t jumping him early.
  • Displacement is your friend.
For movement, Apocalypse only has only a size 2 bump; big blocking terrain can ruin his day.
  • Kite, don’t brawl.
Besides his short bump, he’s a 6-threat brawler with no extra actions and a max range 3. Pursue other objectives.
  • Sacrifice smart.
Expect to lose one model per turn; feed him cheap 2-4-threats like Bill & Bob, not your stars.
  • Punch through his armor with big hits
Apocalypse reduces 1 damage, so big hits = good. You want things like:
    • Red Skull 3’s crit-to-skull leadership
    • Glass cannons and mobile hitters
  • Prepare for Gambit & Colossus.
They’re likely on his team post-buff; know their tricks.
  • Target squishy threats first.
Prioritize characters like Gambit, Psylocke, and Sabretooth early who hit especially hard in this affiliation, but go down fast. Then take out other non-tanky characters before turning on Apoc.
  • Throws and Chip Damage
His damage reduction doesn’t apply to throws and chip damage, so toss terrain or enemies to soften him up.
  • Apply Conditions (Besides Bleed, Incinerate, Stun)
While keeping Apocalypse controlled on his front side, early conditions applied will stick for a while. Apoc also only gets 1 power natively per turn, so you can make him a pretty sad potato.

Don’ts

  • Don’t rely on slow, condition-prone Kaijus.
Unless they’re super mobile, they’ll get bogged down.
  • Don’t waste conditions.
Avoid applying conditions he’s immune to on his front side; doing so just gives him power.
  • Don’t bring superpower spammers.
Apocalypse can root you, choking off ability-dependent characters.
  • Don’t bring characters with an Achilles heal.
Apocalypse can pick any attack type, so avoid units like Venom who have glaring defensive holes.
